Michael Cashin (Chair)

Michael was first appointed to Wellington Waterfront Limited on 1st January 2006 as Deputy Chair.  At the beginning of 2007 this appointment was extended for a further term of three years.  Michael was appointed to the Chair on 30 August 2007 following the resignation of former Chair Fran Wilde.

Michael is currently a Director of Ryman Healthcare Limited, Cavotec MSL Holdings Limited and Cavotec Group Holdings NV.  Previous appointments include Chair of Housing Corporation of New Zealand, Housing New Zealand Limited and At Work Insurance Limited and Director of Capital Properties New Zealand Limited, Allied Farmers Limited and CentrePort Limited.

He has held senior executive positions including Chief Executive of substantial businesses both in New Zealand and overseas.

Ray Ahipene-Mercer

Wellington City Councillor Ray Ahipene-Mercer was appointed the Wellington City Council representative on the Wellington Waterfront Limited Board on 5 November 2004.

Of Ngai Tara and Ngati Ira descent, Ray is the Council’s Arts and Culture Portfolio spokesperson and a member of the Wellington Regional Conservation Board.

In addition to his civic responsibilities, Ray is a guitar-maker and musician.

Jane Black

Incite Wellington Ltd.
Jane Black was appointed to the Board in January 2010.

Jane is an urban planner in Wellington. She has a Bachelor of Town Planning, is an accredited Independent Planning Commissioner and is a member of the NZ Planning Institute. 

She has over 20 years experience in urban planning and design, predominantly at local government level. This includesthe development of strategies and policies to deliver good urban design and heritage outcomes, initiation and project management of key city projects and provision of design review of projects.

Jane has had an ongoing involvement in the Wellington Waterfront project for 20 years, in various roles starting as the planner responsible for its implementation through the planning process and later as Chair and member of the various forms of the design monitoring groups. She currently represents Wellington City Council on the Technical Advisory Group, the design review group for the waterfront project.

She has been Commissioner on the Auckland City Council hearing for the Wynyard Qtr plan change and notices of requirement for the redevelopment of the City’s waterfront. She is also a Commissioner on resource consent and plan change hearings that have an urban design component in Wellington and Kapiti.

 Mark Petersen

Mark Petersen has been a member of the Board since May 2003.  His involvement with the waterfront began as a member of the Council-appointed Waterfront Leadership Group formed in 2000 and responsible for the creation of the Wellington Waterfront Framework (2001) that outlines the vision and the blueprint for how the waterfront should be developed.

Mark is a Registered Valuer and Senior Member of the NZ Property Institute and has 30 years working experience in various sectors of the New Zealand property industry.

In addition to his position on the Wellington Waterfront Limited Board, Mark is a Director of Kinloch Funds Management Limited, is on the Board for CentrePort Limited, and a Director of a Sydney based Private Equity Property Development Fund.  Mark was previously Managing Director of Shortland Properties Limited, a listed property investment company and an Executive Director of Grant Samuel Property NZ Limited.  Prior to Grant Samuel, he established Mark Peterson Advisory, providing corporate real estate advisory services in the New Zealand market.

Robert Gray

Robert Gray was appointed to the board on 30 August 2007.  Previously a director of Positively Wellington Business, Robert has served on the boards of private, sports and government organisations.  He also has considerable experience as a CEO of both New Zealand and multi-national companies.   Robert currently sits on a number of other boards including The Wellington Rugby Football Union and Hurricanes Ltd.
