Wellington Free Ambulance building

The Wellington Free Ambulance Building was purpose built around 1930. It’s one of the finest art deco buildings in the city.

Recent refurbishment has made it home to the St John’s Heineken Hotel, which has already developed a reputation as a quality dining and drinking experience.

The upper floors contain boutique office space housing of lawyers, Knight Coldicutt McMahon Butterworth and ad agency, Carat New Zealand Ltd.

Designed by William Turnbull, the building served as headquarters for the Wellington Free Ambulance Service for some 60 years.  It has since operated as a bar, a theatre and the venue for special events.
