Area Three

Sites One, Two, Three and surrounding public space

Area 3 is the area bordered by the Chaffers Dock Apartments(formerly the Herd Street Post Office), Clyde Quay Boat Harbour and the Overseas Passenger Terminal. Three buildings are proposed for this area of the park – two with a maximum height of three storeys and a third with a maximum of four. Clever landscape design will link these buildings with their neighbours.

For the three Area 3 buildings, Wellington Waterfront is looking at recreational activities and facilities such as interactive retail for children, a family fish centre or rock climbing. Some upper levels may be used for apartments and additional parking will be incorporated.

The buildings are part of the overall design of Waitangi Park and aim to recoup some of the costs of developing and maintaining the park. They’re also intended to provide shelter and ensure the park can be used in all weathers.

A lot more work needs to be done, and the public consulted, on the designs and uses of all these proposals before the plans are finalised.

Status – Planning continues

Building Uses – potential uses being investigated
Building Designs – The three buildings are part of the architectural design competition for the new buildings within Waitangi Park.
Public Open Space – detailed designs for the area surrounding the buildings can begin once each building’s use and design concept has been determined
