Waitangi Park - Area Two

There’s a proposal for Area 2 to house a four-storey building of cutting edge design, created by world renowned Dutch architecture firm, UN Studio.

The building will form a ‘transition’ from the cliff-like eastern side of Te Papa to the human scale of Waitangi Park.

This sculptural and distinctive building has been designed to accommodate a gallery, and will have other complementary uses.

This building, and those proposed for Area 3 were the subject of an international design competition. The designs depart from anything previously seen in New Zealand, and have generated considerable excitement amongst designers, architects and Wellingtonians.
