Find the intriguing tales of Wellington at this popular Museum. Housed in a significant heritage building on Wellington’s beautiful waterfront, it offers a wonderful insight into the rich social and cultural history of our capital city.
The interactive and imaginative exhibitions are a must-see. Highlights include The Wahine Maritime Disaster, with captivating film, and A Millennium Ago, featuring a dramatic installation that uses holographic effects to tell Maori myths and legends. There is always something new to see at the Museum of Wellington. Changing Feature Exhibitions delve into social, cultural or maritime stories from Wellington and beyond, with supporting events, performances and talks staged throughout the year.
The Museum has some great new specialized tours on offer too. The ‘Ship & Chip Tour’ takes you on a voyage through Wellington’s history, harbour and nature. Not only will you get a guided tour of the Museum, return East by West ferry ride and a classic fish & chip lunch, you will also experience the beautifully diverse natural environment of Matiu/Somes Island. Or try the ‘Tales and Rails Tour’ for a fully escorted tour of Wellington’s Cable Car and Museums.

Education Services
The Museum of Wellington Education Service provides guided museum visits, hands-on workshops, resources and information for teachers and students. A Teacher Resource is provided free on booking.
Admission: Students $1-00 Teachers and adults free of charge
