Te Papa

Te Papa at duskTe Papa is New Zealand’s national museum, offering visitors a unique and authentic experience of this country’s treasures and stories.

It has become renowned as a premium showcase for the nation, an essential encounter for people living here as well as visitors from overseas.

Combining new technology and sophisticated displays Te Papa’s exhibitions offer dynamic interpretations of New Zealand’s natural environment and history, and its cultural and artistic heritage. The Museum also hosts top-quality exhibitions from around the world.

A varied and distinctive events programme - performances, talks, lectures, activities for children, and entertainments - complements the exhibitions. There’s always something happening at Te Papa!

Te Papa’s place in the community is embodied in the Marae, a fully functioning communal centre for Mäori and a place where all other cultures are welcomed and can feel they belong.

Entry is free. Charges apply for the Time Warp entertainment centre, tours, and some short-term exhibitions.

Te Papa is open from 10am to 6pm every day of the year, and until 9pm on
Thursdays.
