Wellington Rowing Club

The Wellington Rowing Club has strong historic links to Wellington Harbour.

Formed in 1885, crews from the club have trained and raced on the harbour ever since.  In the early days competition was against the local clubs in the occasional weekend regatta.  Nowadays rowing is a year round sport and rowing skiffs can be seen on the harbour most days of the week.

Located in the distinctive and historic Victorian style building by the Lagoon on Taranaki St Wharf (the club’s headquarters since 1931), the 150 active members can be seen training before and after work on weekdays and throughout weekends.  Masters rowing happens at 10am every Sunday morning.

The club caters for rowers from novice level to premier and from secondary school age to masters.

There are five or six regattas held on Wellington Harbour each year and the club also travels to regattas at Levin, Wanganui, Lake Karapiro (near Cambridge), Rotorua, Blenheim, and Lake Ruataniwha (near Twizel).

Visitors and new rowers are always welcome.
