Waitangi Park is Wellington's newest, biggest and most exciting urban park. The park's design aims to be a respite from urban life in the midst of the city. At its centre is a large grassy expanse, suitable for big public events or informal play, surrounded by a meandering stream and at its outer-most edges, the Activity zone full of varied action and fun.
The park has won international and national landscape design and architecture awards that recognise the recreational, ecologial and social attributes of the park and its sophisticated design.
With a unique urban wetland, hectares of beautiful park and garden areas, activity areas for all ages, walkways, a skate park, cafe and beautiful harbour views, the new waterfront playground has something for every Wellingtonian and visitor to Wellington to enjoy.
Families can picnic in the Park - teenagers off to skatedboard or play street ball while the youngsters can hit the slide and the water play area in the Children's Play Garden. Meanwhile the grown-ups can play pentanque or settle under the nearest tree and wacth the kids for a bit of R and R.
Head down to the Park in the evening with your fish 'n chips to watch a concert or event on the Park's main open field, then enjoy a sunset paddle in the surf at the new beach near Chaffers Marina or stroll along the boardwalk promenade.
Waitangi Park really has something for everyone.
