Waterfront Events Centre scores new name

The Events Centre on Wellington waterfront's Queens Wharf has a new name after TSB Bank recently secured the naming rights. The popular venue will now be known as TSB Bank Arena.

"We are very pleased to announce this agreement between TSB Bank and ourselves. TSB Bank is a successful, New Zealand-owned operation, recognised for its commercial acumen as well as its high levels of customer satisfaction. We think these attributes are a great fit with the waterfront experience," says Ian Pike, Wellington Waterfront CEO.

"The new name, TSB Bank Arena, is also a reflection of the new life recently breathed into the venue. Both Wellington Waterfront Limited and the Wellington City Council have invested significantly in upgrading it by extending seating capacity and improving back-of-house facilities," adds Mr Pike.

TSB Bank Managing Director and CEO Keving Rimmington, says TSB Bank saw the opportunity of gaining naming rights as a means to raise its profile in the region and demonstrate its commitment to the people of Wellington by investing in this well-known and much-used city amenity.

"The venue is busy throughout the year, hosting events for all ages and interests. Changing the name to TSB Bank Arena represents a way to highlight our presence with existing and potential customers."

Wellington Waterfront Limited is lodging an application for non-notified resource consent to gain approval for new signage to be installed on the western and northern sides of the building. As soon as consent has been obtained, the new signs will be installed and the existing signage replaced.

Proceeds from the naming rights will be spent on developing public space on the waterfront.
