subcommittee wowed

The Waterfront Development Sub-Committee of WCC last night voted wholeheartedly for the proposed new waterfront designs by Australian architect John Wardle and Dutch architects UN Studio.

John Wardle presented his design concept and vision in person to the committee, which was asked to support the decision of the jury for the Waitangi Park Building Design Competition.

Mayor Kerry Prendergast said of the concept designs for the sites adjacent to the Overseas Passenger Terminal: “These are absolutely stunning and would be a fabulous asset for the city.”

A spokesperson for Wellington Waterfront Limited told the committee that the proposed building sites constituted 8-10% of Waitangi Park.  A public feedback process conducted during the competition showed 85% of participants were in favour of one or more of the concept designs.

The next step for Wellington Waterfront Limited will be to secure potential tenants and investors, refinement of the designs, consideration of project costs and complete a comprehensive feasibility analysis.
